Sao Sarm Hpong ‘Fern’ is a royal family guardian of the Shan Palace in Hsipaw. Together with her husband Sao Oo Kya ‘Donald’, she hosts tourists for limited hours most evenings, to share about the former princely Shan states and more.

Shan Palace is the last vestige of the last living prince of Hsipaw. Drop by for a guided tour that showcases a significant piece of Myanmar history, and do your bit in preserving its heritage.

Inge Sargent (Eberhard) is the wife of prince Sao Kya Seng, and Madadevi of Hsipaw. Their tragic story is immortalized in her book Twilight Over Burma: My Life as a Shan Princess. It also made it to film in Twilight Over Burma directed by Sabine Derflinger.
